An army officer fell on the front line in the fighting between the defense forces and the combatants in the North West region. Lieutenant of the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) Fabrice Mboutou died on May 30 in an ambush by secessionists in Mbengwi.

According to concordant sources, the BIR lieutenant lost his life in the explosion of an improvised explosive device (IED) while he was on his way to the inauguration of a new military camp to reinforce the presence of the army in the North-West where the so-called Anglophone crisis has been going on for almost 7 years.

In this ambush by separatist fighters, two non-commissioned officers and 2 army soldiers were killed. This IED attack comes just four days after the death of 4 other soldiers in Belo, North West region.
