Cameroon and the Eramet group are negotiating a mining convention which will define Cameroon’s investments and shares in the gigantic Akonolinga rutile project. The Secretary of State to the Minister of Mines of Cameroon, confided a few days ago to the daily Cameroon Tribune that “ Eramet is one of the most successful mining companies in Cameroon. They respected their specifications and all their obligations. The next step for them is to obtain the mining agreement ”

Cameroon’s rutiliferous potential is around 3 million tonnes, making the country the world’s second largest reserve of this ore. After the agreement, Eramet will follow with the setting up of the infrastructure to start operations from 2025. This Akonolinga rutile project will make Cameroon one of the major players in the world market for alloy metals and metallurgy, the raw material of which comes from rutile.

Cameroon is a gigantic reservoir of essential raw materials, its contribution to GDP being only 1%. The start of mining from 2025 will undoubtedly boost the economy and allow the achievement of the 2030 National Development Strategy. The mining code being clear on the fact that 15% of the exploited ore must be transformed on site, it will be the beginning of the industrialization of Cameroon.
