Ambassador Lamora Inaugurates the Center for Transformative Education at the University of Ngaoundéré during trip to the Adamawa Region.

The rector of the University of Ngaoundéré, Mamoudou Abdoulmoumini, and the United States Ambassador to Cameroon, Christopher J. Lamora, proceeded, on March 11, to the official inauguration of the Center for Transformative Education (CET) housed within the Faculty of Educational Sciences of this public academic institution. This center is the result of a partnership between the University of Ngaoundéré and Ball State University, an American public university located in the state of Indiana. “This center’s mission is to promote the professionalization and digitalization of training which is part of the government’s vision. Indeed, this structure will have to develop theories and teaching techniques, in order to improve the transmission of knowledge to learners. The center will not only train students, but also trainers, i.e. teachers. He will also be interested in basic education, secondary education and other non-conventional training,” indicates the rector.

The latter is convinced that the future achievements and contributions of the CET will contribute to the improvement of the Cameroonian education system. The CET was created on September 14, 2023 by order of the Minister of Higher Education. It is presented in the document as a research and training center in transformative education, an approach to providing learners with the means to act in favor of more just, peaceful and sustainable societies.

According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), transformative education involves teaching and learning aimed at motivating and empowering learners to make decisions and to take informed actions at the individual, community and global levels. “This center marks the beginning of a transformative pedagogy, where teachers, lecturers, professionals and students will engage in constructive discussions, encouraging each other to challenge the status quo and improve educational results for future generations,” says the American diplomat, who welcomes this innovative initiative.
