This year 2021, the baccalaureate in general secondary education (ESG) has seen an increase of almost 26% in the success rate compared to the previous year. In 2020, this rate was 47.22%. While in 2019 it stood at 60.50%.
The South-West region occupies first place in the national ranking of the results of the 2021 ESG baccalaureate. Its success rate is 83.73%. The Center region follows with 76.18%. Then the Eastern region comes in third place, with 73.82% success rate.
In fact, 84,673 young Cameroonians obtained the 2021 baccalaureate, a record success rate of 73.37% against just over 47% last year. This exponential increase in the number of successful candidates for the baccalaureate exams is causing a stir in national opinion. It emerges from this interview between Minesec and Obc Director Étienne Roger Minkoulou that the removal of the eliminatory mark and other innovations specific to the Competence-Based Approach (APC) are the main causes.
“Beyond the efforts made by the Obc supported by the supervisory authority (Minesec), the elimination of the eliminatory note, a corollary of the skills-based approach, is the main reason for this. Because the principle of the eliminatory mark was one of the causes of several failures in official exams … “, explains Étienne Roger Minkoulou. The Minister left the OBC headquarters, satisfied with the information gleaned from a good source. But regretting that the services of the Ministry of Finance having received the statements of payment of the fees due to the interveners in the various OBC examinations, have not yet fully released the amount required for the purposes of disinterestedness of those concerned.
