Eric Tataw, by his war’s name “Garri Master”, will be presented on September 8 to a judge in the District Court of Maryland, in the United States. This will be during a request for bail. This is indicated by an American justice document consulted by camerounactuonline.com.
For the moment, this separatist leader is detained by the United States Marshall services in Maryland. He was arrested on August 31 for his alleged involvement in abuses perpetrated in the crisis-ridden Cameroonian regions of the North West and South West. This arrest follows legal action brought by lawyer of Cameroonian origin Emmanuel Nsahlaï.
Indeed, Eric Tataw is suspected of having sponsored, directed and financed violence against civilians, in particular workers of the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC), the largest agro-industrial company in Cameroon. Since 2017, CDC employees have been the target of separatist militiamen who kill or amputate them. The aim of this violence is to curb the production of this agro-industry accused of being a business of the power of Yaoundé. Eric Tataw also allegedly ordered the kidnapping and murder of teachers.
This arrest is an important step in the fight that Yaoundé is waging against separatist leaders based abroad. The Cameroonian government has continually asked the partner countries which shelter these sponsors to expatriate them so that they can be tried for their crimes.
