Kouam Tatchuemo Adolphe died of illness after serving a 2-year prison sentence.

The activist from the for the of Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM) hit the headlines in August 2022 after the publication on social networks of images showing him chained on his hospital bed at the Laquintinie Hospital in Douala where he had been evacuated for care.

Arrested and imprisoned in September 2020 for having participated in the “peaceful marches” called for by Maurice Kamto’s CRM, Kouam Tatchuemo Adolphe finally died after serving his 2-year sentence. The news is confirmed by lawyer Me Désiré Sikati, National Secretary Delegate in charge of Human Rights and Governance of the CRM who underlines that Kouam Tatchuemo Adolphe “finally gave his life for Cameroon”.

Indeed, Kouam Tatchuemo Adolphe was an CRM activist living in Douala. After his arrest and imprisonment, he contracted an illness which required his hospitalization. “Hospitalized and chained for days on a bed at the Laquintinie hospital in Douala, he was then sentenced to 02 years in prison by the Military Court of Douala. Having served his sentence despite the illness that was gnawing at him, KOUAM TATCHUEMO Adolphe was released while his four limbs continued to lose their motor skills. After following multiple treatments without success in Douala, our comrade withdrew to the western region of Cameroon in search of a treatment from our traditional medicine. Unfortunately, fate has decided to alleviate the suffering of our dear political friend KOUAM TATCHUEMO Adolphe,” wrote Me Désiré Sikati on social networks.

The National Secretary Delegate in charge of Human Rights and Governance of the CRM pays tribute to the deceased who, according to him, left his life in a political fight for a new Cameroon. “I feel stunned as I was on August 2, 2022 when I was chatting with him while he was chained on his hospital bed, surprised to be suddenly struck by an illness from which he did not suffer before his imprisonment. After Rodrigue NDAGUEHO KOUFET the dictatorship killed KOUAM TATCHUEMO Adolphe. You bravely participated in the political fight for the advent of a new Cameroon. You left your life there. But the fight continues and we will win it so that you understand where you are that you did not die for nothing“.
