According to several consistent sources, calm has returned to Kaï-Kaï, in Mayo-Danay. On CRTV Radio, the Divisional Officer (D.O.) of this division of the Far North region, Jean Lazare Ndongo, even adds that “the populations are going about their business” since 1st April 2024.

The day before, angry residents of Kaï-Kaï attacked a group of gendarmes, according to the D.O’s explanations. The official death toll is five, including a police officer. There are also five injured Pandoras. Their vital prognosis is not in jeopardy. The circumstances of this incident remain unclear at this time. The prefect Jean Lazare Ndongo said that the gendarmes were chased by furious populations. According to journalistic sources, it all started with an argument between a gendarme and a motorcycle taxi driver at a regular checkpoint. The origin of the dispute remains to be determined.

The administrative authorities are now working to ensure that such an incident does not happen again in Kaï-Kaï. “We reminded the population that they must respect the institutions, respect the people who speak on behalf of the institutions,” indicates Jean Lazare Ndongo.
