Cameroon – Belabo: the S.D.O threatens Touristique Express after an increase in the price of transport on the Bertoua line

In the district of Belabo, Eastern region, the Sub Divisional Officer (S.D.O) of Oceans did not appreciate seeing the intercity passenger transport company “unilaterally” increase the prices of the trip between Belabo and Bertoua.

The price would thus have increased from 1,500 to 2,000 FCFA. Direct consequence of the price of fuel increased by the government from February 3, 2024. S.D.O. Dahirou is all the more offended since “another competing agency has kept them (the price of transport) at 1,500 FCFA”. Worse, after a call to order from the administrative authority, the Touristique Express manager of Belabo “continued at the beginning of the evening (Saturday, February 3) to want to impose his new rates,” notes the land manager in a radio release.

This even though a decision on a possible increase in the price of transport has not yet been made. A decision which should be taken in agreement with the transport unions. As a result, the S.D.O. drew the attention of the Touristique Express agency in Belabo to “the inconvenience that his agency incurs through the practice of unilateral and unapproved prices”. Since the government increased the price of fuel at the pump, which took effect on February 3, the transport sector immediately passed on the increase in the price of the ticket. Increases ranging from 500 to 1,000 FCFA for interurban transport. While taxis actually charge a rate of 400 FCFA, compared to 300 FCFA until now.
