This will improve the supply of electrical energy on the electrical network, pending the peak at the end of November 2022, for the 211MW planned with the end of work on the 225 KV Nyabizan-Nkolkoumou line.
Since October 30, 2022, the Memve’ele hydroelectric power plant in the South region has now injected 130 megawatts (MW) into the South Interconnected Network (RIS). This production went from 90 to 130 MW. This will improve the power supply to the electricity network, in anticipation of the peak at the end of November 2022, for the 211 MW planned with the end of the work on the 225 KV Nyabizan-Nkolkoumou line.
At the start of operation, the dam produced only 60MW, due to several blockages on the 225 KW line, including the problem of compensation for local residents. In two years of operation, Electricity Development Corporation (EDC) will allow the RIS to receive 70MW more.
Since October 30, 2022, EDC, its teams and its Sino-Hydro partners have succeeded in increasing the production of Memve’ele to 130 MW. It should be noted that the Memve’ele hydroelectric dam project was designed by the Cameroonian government to revive electricity production in the SRI, which has already shown signs of slowing down in the face of ever-increasing demand for electrical energy.
As a reminder, the RIS is made up of 480 km of 225 KV lines and 870 km of 90 KV lines, and 17 substations (4 so-called interconnection substations and 13 source substations supplying the distribution networks) and extends to six regions: Center, South, Littoral, West, North-West and South-West. It is subdivided into 3 major regions: the Center (Centre and South Region), the Littoral and the West (West, South-West and North-West Region).
