According to the Ministry of Economy and Regional Planning, these funds were transferred to Cameroon in December 2021.

According to information from the Ministry of the Economy, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Union granted, at the end of December 2021, finances for a total amount of 80.7 billion FCFA to Cameroon to renew the Belabo-Ngaoundéré railway line (330 km).

Thus, we learn, these resources will make it possible to improve the quality of the multimodal transport offer, precisely by optimizing the operation of this 47-year-old railway line, essential for serving the national hinterland (north of the country ) and sub-regional (Chad and Central African Republic).

Carried out by the Spanish group Typsa, made up of independent engineering consulting firms, the feasibility study for this project was validated on March 6, 2020. The work to renew the Belabo-Ngaoundéré railway line was announced for 2021, but , explains the Ministry of the Economy, there has been a delay in the mobilization of funding.

This renewal of the railway is the second major project carried out in the railway sector in Cameroon over the past 20 years, after the renewal of the 175 km track between Batschenga and Ka’a.
