On Tuesday, February 22, 2022, the Holy Father appointed Reverend Aloysius Fondong Abangalo, from the clergy of Buea, currently a teacher and trainer at the major seminary of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Bambui, bishop of the diocese of Mamfe (Cameroon), in the ecclesiastical province of Bamenda, capital of the Mezam division and of the North-West region.
Good news from the Vatican. Pope Francis appointed lastTuesday, February 22, 2022, Bishop Aloysius Fondong Abangalo bishop of the diocese of Mamfe. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Mamfe is a diocese located in the town of Mamfe in the ecclesiastical province of Bamenda in Cameroon. He replaces in this post Bishop Andrew Nkea Fuanya, previously the coadjutor bishop of the diocese, he is then appointed archbishop of Bamenda.
Bishop Aloysius Fondong Abangalo was born on June 5, 1973 in Limbe, in the diocese of Buea. He studied philosophy and theology at St Thomas Aquinas Interdiocesan Major Seminary of Bambui, Bamenda. He obtained a degree in canon law at the Catholic University of Central Africa (2011-2014). As a student, he ministered at St. Peter and Paul Parish in Simbock. Since 2019 he has been in Italy for the doctorate in Canon Law at the Pontifical Urbaniana University.
After the priestly ordination on April 20, 2006 for the diocese of Buéa, he exercised the following ministries: vicar of the parish of holy family of Limbe (2006-2007); president of Our Lady of Grace College in Muyuka (2007-2009); diocesan bursar and member of the College of Consultors (2009-2011); teacher and trainer at St Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary in Bambui. From 2014 to 2019, he also worked at the Interdiocesan Tribunal of Bamenda.
