Paul Biya declares Monday, August 16, 2021 Public holiday

While he has been in Geneva, Switzerland for more than a month now, Cameroonian President Paul Biya signed a decree this Thursday, August 12, 2021 declaring Monday August 16, 2021 non-working with pay due to the feast of the Assumption which takes place on Sunday August 15, 2021.

Paul Biya, the President of the Republic of Cameroon declares a public holiday on Monday, August 16, 2021, throughout the territory of the Republic of Cameroon. The tenant of Etoudi, the palace of the Cameroonian people, has in fact signed a text that gives this information this Thursday, August 12, 2021.

The decision of the Cameroonian Head of State Paul Biya relates to the feast of the Assumption celebrating the elevation to heaven of Mary, the mother of Jesus which takes place on Sunday August 15, 2021. While the feast fell on the Sunday 15, the President in virtue of the powers conferred on him by the law of legal holidays decided to make the date Monday.

The decision comes within the framework of Law N ° 73/5 of 7 Dec 1973, Fixing the regime of legal holidays in the Republic of Cameroon which stipulates in its article 5 that “when a religious legal holiday is celebrated on a Sunday or a day public holiday, the President of the Republic may, by decree, declare a holiday not unemployed on the consecutive day ”.
