Cameroonian Senator, Elizabeth Regina Mundi, of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) was kidnapped yesterday Saturday 30 April 2022 in Bamenda, in the North West region of Cameroon.

The news was confirmed by the governor of the North West region. “Ms. Elizabeth Regina Mundi, Senator of the Cameroon People Democratic Movement (ruling party) was kidnapped on Saturday April 30 around 12 noon (local time) in the locality of Foncha Street in Bamenda“, indicated Adolhe Lélé Lafrique, Governor of the North West.

Senator Elizabeth Regina Mundi was abducted along with her driver while they were in a vehicle. “At the time of her abduction, she was in the company of her driver, also kidnapped in their vehicle,” continued the governor. He nevertheless specifies that research is underway to find them.

The kidnapping of the senator was claimed on Sunday by a secessionist group called “Ambazonia Defense Force” (ADF) in a video posted on social networks.

For the senator to regain her freedom, we demand an exchange of prisoners. The Cameroonian government must first release nearly 75 separatists who are in prison,” the kidnappers said in the video.

The English-speaking regions of the North West and South West of Cameroon are the scene of a secessionist rebellion. According to the UN, the violence has already caused the death of more than 3,000 people and caused the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people.
