This is what emerges from the provisional report drawn up by the Cameroon Baccalaureate Office (Obc), after the announcement of the results.

This is a clear increase compared to last year when the same rate was estimated at less than 50%
On July 28, 2021, the Cameroon Baccalaureate Office (OBC) made public the results of the General Education Baccalaureate. Since that day, joys and disappointments punctuate the daily lives of candidates who have applied for this exam. Nevertheless, according to statistics which were made public in the wake of the OBC, it would seem that there were more celebrations this year than in 2020. Indeed, the overall success rate stands at 73 , 37% against 47.22% in 2020.

In detail, “the South-West region which occupied 3rd place in the ranking in 2020 is at the top with 83.73%, against 51.34% in 2020. It is followed by the Center region which totals 77.18 % compared to 40.20% last year. The eastern region is in 3rd place with 73.82%. The North-West, West and South regions respectively occupy 4th, 5th and 6th place with 73.58%, 73.39% and 72.1% respectively. At the bottom of the ranking, we have Adamaoua, the Far North and the Littoral which respectively occupy the 10th, 9th and 8th place with 68.33%, 68.87% and 70.94% ”, we can read in the columns of the daily Mutations on newsstands this Friday, July 30, 2021.

The Journal directed by Georges Alain Boyomo later specified that all the regions recorded a success rate of over 50%. The last having obtained a success rate of around 68.37%. According to an educational inspector interviewed by our colleagues from Mutations, these convincing results are the result of the effectiveness of the skill-based approach, but also of the cancellation of the ruthless rule of the eliminatory mark.

With the competency-based approach, we assess the skills of the students, and therefore, there is no eliminatory mark. We received recommendations, ordering us to cancel all playoff scores, ”he said. And to add that “it is in the supposedly problematic subjects that the candidates behaved well.” They had averages going up to 19/20. But in the tests designed according to the competency-based approach, the marks were catastrophic.
