The Algerian ambassador to Cameroon Merzak Bedjaoui, relayed on Thursday in Douala the reaction of the authorities of his country in relation to the safety of their nationals who came to live the CAN.
The governor of the Littoral region, of which the city of Douala (host of group E) is the capital, held a joint press briefing with the Algerian ambassador to Cameroon on January 13, 2021 in his services. It was a question for Samuel Dieudonné Ivaha Diboua and Merzak Bedjaoui set out to “shed all the light” on the regrettable incident of the stabbing of several Algerian journalists on January 9, 2022 in Douala.
The ambassador specifies in the statement made during the press briefing that “the state of physical health of the attacked journalists has improved and does not raise any particular concern”. He adds that all have resumed their activities. The diplomat indicates that the authorities of his country remain in contact with the Cameroonian authorities with regard to the identification and the aggression of the package.
Merzak Bedjaoui reports that Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Ramtane Lamamra insisted on the need to ensure the safety of African journalists and supporters during the CAN. The head of Algerian diplomacy, we learn, thanks the Cameroonian Minister of Foreign Relations “for the arrangements and measures that were immediately taken” to ensure the protection and security of the Algerians present in Cameroon for the CAN.
The Algerian ambassador in Yaoundé “stresses that his compatriots are well received and treated by both the authorities and the local population“. He points out that everyone shares pleasant moments and fraternal memories on a daily basis. Which, according to him, is proof of the hospitality and generosity of the Cameroonian people.
