The country of Paul Biya paid its debt on February 22, 2022

According to the dashboard of operations on the Treasury securities market published by the Beac, for the period from February 21 to 25, 2022, Cameroon is making this February 22, 2022 a reimbursement of a total amount of 15.3 billion FCFA. This is concretely 546.5 million FCFA of interest and the principal of 14.770 billion FCFA.

These funds had been made available to the Cameroonian Public Treasury at the end of an operation to issue assimilable Treasury bonds with 3 years of maturity remunerated at 3.7% annual interest. The show took place in the year 2019.

The Beac document also reveals that alongside the repayment of the principal and the above-mentioned interest, Cameroon will immediately go into debt to the tune of 15 billion FCFA, by means of an issue of assimilable Treasury bonds at 26 weeks of maturity. This financing, for which interest is pre-computed, will be used to meet the country’s ad hoc cash flow needs.

As a reminder, the 2022 Finance Law authorizes the government to mobilize a total of 350 billion FCFA by issuing public securities during the current year. According to the Minister of Finance, most of these loans will be made during the first half.
