Cameroon – Garoua: He finds 14 million CFA francs and returns them to the owners

by Theophile
Amidou Baraka

The scene takes place on February 11 in Garoua, in the North region of Cameroon. Amidou Baraka, a farmer, finds a travel bag containing the sum of fourteen million (14,000,000) CFA francs, well buried inside clothes. The unusual find happens as he was returning from the farm.

The 30-year-old farmer who learned of the notice of loss went to the village chief “to whom he returns the money. The latter appeals to the owners who were foreigners who came to the locality to buy the bags of soya bean,” we learn.

Marked by the honesty of the farmer, the traders decide to give Amidou a sum of one hundred thousand (100,000) CFA francs as a reward for his gesture.

But the latter, we learn from media sources, would have refused this envelope claiming to have given the money for fear of God. It is only after the insistence of the owners that the farmer will end up accepting half of what was offered to him, that is fifty thousand (50,000) CFA francs.
