The measure has been in effect in this public hospital since December 18, 2021.
Times are tough for unvaccinated staff at Batouri District Hospital in the eastern region of Cameroon. And for good reason, since September 18, he has been called upon to present a negative Covid-19 test “every three days”.
In a press release on September 15, Dr José Andjembe Essola, director of this health facility, explains that this measure aims “to achieve early diagnosis and treatment of unvaccinated people who are more at risk of serious forms; given that vaccination is not compulsory, but necessary‘.
Almost a year after the decision was made, our editorial staff learned that the vaccination rate of the staff of the said health facility, at 78% of the staff of this hospital, was vaccinated on that date.
This rate remains lower: “to the strong recommendations (…) of the Minister of Health who would like 100% of its staff to be vaccinated, in view of the multiple vital advantages conferred by this vaccination“. Hence the need to continue raising awareness “by emphasizing the benefits of vaccination, while dispelling any misinformation about the vaccine on the basis of available scientific knowledge“.
As a reminder, the figures made public last September 1 showed 4,310 confirmed positive cases and 70 deaths for 172 health personnel infected and 3 three deaths.
