This operation will be an opportunity for the national and international community to gain an idea of the scale of the separatist’s murderous enterprise.

An operation to publicly destroy a large arsenal of war recovered from former members of armed separatist groups will be held in the coming weeks in Buea, the capital of the Southwest region.

The Minister of Defense (Mindef), Joseph Beti Assomo, specifies that this operation being finalized at the Ministry of External Relations will be an opportunity for the national and international community to get a more precise idea of the scale of the murderous enterprise of the separatists.

Defense Minister (Mindef) Joseph Beti Assomo made the announcement during the special meeting to assess the security situation in Cameroon he chaired on May 7, 2021 in Yaoundé. During this meeting, Mindef notably ordered the strengthening of security in the regions of Adamawa and the North, where some cases of kidnappings and demands for ransoms have been reported recently.

Certainly, the tensions rekindled by the presidential election of December 2020 in the Central African Republic (CAR) are fading. But the military command continues the examination “in depth of the possible repercussions of this situation on our country and the most continual way of preventing the irradiation of the shock wave of these Central African upheavals on our country which supports the essential of the Douala-Garoua-Boulai corridor or even Bangui, a vital axis for the economy of the CAR, a country without a seafront ”, insists Mindef.

Since 2017, the army has grappled with pro-independence militias in the North West and South West regions. They regularly attack military patrols, but also civilians. Military campaigns regularly result in the destruction of camps of separatist groups. Hostages are then freed and war material recovered.
