The two employees of “Doctors Without Borders“ were provisionally released on Thursday May 19, 2022 after spending more than 4 months in detention.
The international NGO Doctors Without Borders (DWB) announced yesterday on one of its Twitter accounts that two of its employees, detained for five months, “ have been temporarily released from prison ”. “We are relieved that they were able to regain their freedom and return to their families. We hope that this freedom will be final and that the ongoing legal proceedings will completely exculpate them of any reprehensible act,” writes DWB.
However, two other employees of the humanitarian organization remain in detention. “Two other colleagues are still in detention and we hope for a similar resolution of their case. We are also convinced of the legality of the tasks they carried out for the medical organization,” said this humanitarian organization.
Two DWB employees were arrested on December 27, 2021, in the South West region. They are suspected by the authorities of having tried to exfiltrate a militia leader wounded by the army during a clash. DWB defends having duly informed the authorities and having respected the protocol. Nothing works. A few weeks later, two other employees were arrested.
Tired of fighting, DWB announced on April 5 that he was suspending its activities in the region as a sign of protest. With this release, the DWB does not say whether he will resume its humanitarian activities.
