In a video posted Saturday, May 14 on social media, a militia leader introducing himself as “Field Marshall 10 Kobo” announces that the separatist group he leads has decided to release 9 of their hostages. This is part of the 12 employees of a construction company kidnapped on May 7 on the asphalting site of the Kumba-Ekondo Titi road, in the South-West region.

The ex-hostages, including two women, appear in this video where they are forced to make a commitment not to work for the company that employs them.

Field Marshall 10 Kobo, one of the most feared separatist warlords in the region, also says in this video that he did not demand ransom for the release of these hostages.

However, three other people remain held captive. These are presented by the militiamen as officials of the construction company. These hostages who are not from the region are accused of having recruited the 9 others. According to Field Marshall 10 Kobo, they will be held hostage until further notice.

The government has not officially reacted to this development. A few days ago, however, the Minister of Communication admitted that 12 workers from a company engaged on the aforementioned site had been kidnapped by the separatists. During this operation, the separatists also destroyed two construction machines.
