The Minister of Communication confirms the explosion of a homemade bomb, on Saturday July 2, at the Mokolo market, one of the largest shopping places in the capital Yaoundé. “ The low-amplitude explosion caused by the deflagration of an explosive device ” injured four people, two of them seriously, said Minister René Emmanuel Sadi, in a press release signed this Monday.
On Saturday, July 2, around 1 p.m., a low-amplitude explosion caused by the deflagration of an explosive device occurred at the Mokolo market in Yaoundé, opposite the Numérica micro – finance, and a hundred meters from the 2nd Sub division Police Station.
The explosive device consisted of a detonator, a switch consisting of a motorcycle switch for remote triggering, three 9-volt batteries connected in series as a power source, a charge reinforced with lead balls, all buried in an aluminum box concealed in a plastic bag.
The results of this explosion report four injuries, including 02 serious: Mondi Simon and Yerima Rosalie, currently interned at the Central Hospital of Yaoundé, and 02 light: Menounga Gisèle and Biolo Honorine, who have returned to their homes.
In the press release, René Emmanuel Sadi – Minister of Communication insists on this point: “The Government of the Republic condemns with the greatest firmness this criminal act, perpetrated by individuals without faith or law, with the manifest aim of many victims among the population in a place of great affluence, and thus cause horror and desolation”.

With the outbreak of the separatist conflict in the North-West and South-West regions in 2017, the risk has increased. In November 2017, a homemade bomb was discovered not far from an oil depot in Douala. Other devices of this type will also be placed in Yaoundé without causing any deaths.
